Cervical Cancer – Preventable, Detectable, Treatable
Cancer of the cervix is the 4th most common cancer among women worldwide with estimated 527,624 new cases and 265,672 death in 2012 (GLOBOCAN). According to ICO Information Centre on HPV & Cancer 2017, about 2,145 new cervical cancer cases are diagnosed annually in Malaysia in 2012. Cervical cancer ranks as 2nd leading cause of female cancer in Malaysia & the 2nd most common female cancer in women aged 15 to 44 years in Malaysia. About 621 cervical cancer death occur annually in Malaysia in 2012.
宫颈癌是全球女性中第四大常见的癌症。在2012年,新增病例为527,624例及死亡病例为265,672例。根据 ICO Information Centre on HPV & Cancer 2017,马来西亚在2012年,每年诊断出大约2,145例宫颈癌新病例。宫颈癌排位马来西亚女性癌症第二位,它也是马来西亚15至44岁的女性中第二普遍的女性癌症。在2012年,马来西亚每年约有621宗宫颈癌死亡病例。
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is now a well-established cause of cervical cancer & there is growing evidence of HPV being a relevant factor in other anogenital cancers (anus, vulva, vagina & penis) as well as head & neck cancers. HPV type 16 & 18 are responsible for about 70% of all cervical cancer cases worldwide. HPV vaccine that prevent HPV 16 & 18 infection are now available & have the potential to reduce the incidence of cervical & other anogenital cancers.
