Human papilloma virus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is typically acquired by those who engage in any kind of sexual activity, including oral, penetration, et cetera. While this infection can present without any symptoms and can be eliminated by our own immune system, it can cause conditions such as warts, pre-cancers, and cancers of the cervix, vagina, vulva, penis, anal, and head and neck (oropharynx). In fact, more than 90% of cases of cervical cancer are due to HPV infection.

For some people with certain medical conditions, such as a history of cervical cancer, more frequent tests might be needed, according to medical practitioners’ advice. The test is done through the collection of the cervical cell sample by the cervical swab method.
因此，对于30至65岁之间且性活跃的女性，建议每5年进行一次HPV基因检测。对于某些有特殊医疗情况，如有子宫颈癌病史的人，可能需要更频繁地检查，这应按照医生的建议进行。该检测是通过宫颈拭子法收集宫颈细胞样本进行。
HPV can be divided into two groups, which are high-risk and low-risk HPV. A high-risk HPV infection may not cause any symptoms. However, persistent infection can lead to cancer. Low-risk HPV infection, meanwhile, can cause warts. Although HPV can affect all genders, currently, there is no standard test of HPV for males.
HPV可分为高危型和低危型两类。高危型HPV感染可能不会出现任何症状，但持续感染有可能导致癌症。低危型HPV感染则可能引发疣。尽管HPV可以影响所有性别，但目前尚无针对男性的标准HPV检测。
